Portrait Series

"Sara's Every Day" S.Smith 2013
These images bring focus to your typical teenage girl's process of getting ready in the morning by applying extreme contrast. My bright green background makes everything else pop, and that's my favorite - photos with lots of color. They're part of my daily routine: braif my messy hair, a quick swipe of my mascara wand, shoes on, and a quick pose in the mirror to make sure I look alright before I'm out the door to catch my ride. I enjoy photographing people in their daily lives - whatever is the norm for them. Any one of the little things someone does in the course of their day can make for a nice photo.

  1. I think your Portrait series is very interesting. I like your theme, it’s very different and cool especially with the background colors of the wall. It is very eye catching and very bright and lively. You picked a great place to take these photos. I think you did a great job with the lighting. Your lighting on your face in the top pictures is just enough. Not really dark that you can’t see any features and not very bright that it reflects off. The lighting really works with all the pictures, really showing the details in the clothing and hair. The picture in the bottom with the shoes is a leading line picture since it really leads into the subject matter. And the lighting works great with that on the floor and the sole on the shoes being really bright.
You also did a great job with the adjustment and placement of yourself in the photographs. There are no distracting objects, shadows, etc., in the background. It’s just a plain, bright background and that really helps to make your photographs pop. All of your pictures were in sharp focus, and I liked that since your setting was really bright and we were able to see everything very clearly. Your way of cropping or just framing your photographs was really great too. It’s really shows depth and interest in the photographs just by the way you set everything up. I think your portrait series came out really nice, with everything from lighting to the colors to the arrangements. You did a great job.
